It’s amazing how many webmasters and small company owners ignore their local market. If you are a huge international brand like Nike, you may not want traffic from your area, but most of us can really use it. Make sure that your local city is in your meta descriptions. Make sure you are using keywords that your local competitors are not using. This is particularly important when you register for Google maps. The categories you pick on Google maps can mean the difference between being at the top of the list and not getting listed at all. So do your best. Don’t be afraid to try it because you can always change it and see what happens.
